Testimonials and Calls for Help

2008 - Serving member NSWPF - 8 years service - Thank you so much for your time on the phone last night. It made me feel so much better to chat with someone who understands, really understands what I’m going through.

All the time in the cops, which is a barren desert for anyone who likes to be offered support, sympathy and encouragement, now I have found that there are people in this world who will say good things about you, places you can work where, you do good things people will actually notice.

Former Police sergeant - 26 years service - It seems there is no understanding by the mainstream who only say “get over it”, “get a life”

Current serving police officer - physical injury - On attending a neighbour dispute, this female police officer was assaulted and suffered a neck fracture. Subsequently underwent surgery and a medical discharge was denied as not enough effort hade been put into rehabilitation by the Police Service. Her comment on this is an example of the trauma of any victim - “I have always found it hard to accept the offender got off scot free (a good behaviour bond) and I have a life sentence of pain”.

Police officer waiting for discharge from NSWPS - “I appreciate that someone is listening. I hope that commonsense prevails, because by them attempting to find me other employment in the NSWPS scares me. I need to start fresh and get the monkey off my back”

Concerned father of serving police officer - “My son is going through a particularly bad time with his hurt on duty after an attack by a criminal. It has left him traumatised, shattered in health, and now, under psychiatric care. To make matters worse, the Department has failed to make up his salary correctly and he may lose his home.”

Serving police officer - “I have recently been diagnosed with PTSD as a result of being involved with the Bali bombings in 2002 and I’m currently off on HOD awaiting rehab at St John of God hospital. I would like to come to your next meeting and see if there is anything for me.”
